Melissa started Wasatch Accounting because she loves to help people, especially business owners. Her experience over the years has taught her that many people struggle with certain aspects of owning a business, even if they have been doing it awhile! She understands that trying to do and learn it all can be overwhelming and most importantly, she can help relieve some stress with her knowledge & expertise. Melissa grew up in a family business and knows firsthand the drive, dedication & passion it takes for her clients & their families to build their dreams. 🦉 Melissa’s career started her career working in her families Ace Hardware store. This actually sparked her interest in accounting and the administrative, what it takes behind the scenes to run a business. She has worked for different size accounting firms over the years, spent a number of years in both real estate and property management, law firms as well as a variety of other industries. 🦉Melissa has owned two previous successful businesses. She sold her bookkeeping business in 2012 to join a tech/finance start-up early on in it’s journey. During that time she had the opportunity to learn about scaling, crazy growth and building an accounting & HR department from nothing. The growth of that organization went from 25 employees to 525 employees in 36 very short months! This was an unreal and enlightening experience that she enjoyed immensely, although she will tell you it was like a 3 year long tax season! It was one of her favorite work experiences over her career and really leveled up her knowledge base and skills. Melissa is now dedicated to using her knowledge and insights to help her clients grow and become amazing success stories.
Melissa and her husband Darby enjoy the outdoors, cooking & family. They enjoy time with their 4 kids, Dyllan, Kerstin, Shelby & Kyle. Don’t be surprised if your scheduled call with Melissa has a background of a campground, the RV, or even the backyard. She can do her job from anywhere and does! Sunshine and the beauty of the outdoors give Melissa the needed recharge so she can help others. Photography, genealogy, cooking and baking are also some of things Melissa loves to share with others.
Melissa is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She is also an IRS Enrolled Agent and hold an active CA Real Estate Broker license. She holds a Masters in Business Administration with an IT emphasis as she is passionate about implementing technology into business processes and systems to help streamline business. Her undergraduate degree is in Accounting.
Melissa currently volunteers some time with some local outdoor organizations. Back in California, she started a 501c3 for the Special Education Department in the Poway School District. Her son with autism introduced her to a whole new world, and when she realized the need in her community, she made it happen. She founded and then ran the organization from 2009-2012. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, trainer for new leaders, and participated in many other volunteer positions in her community over the years.
Darby is a people person, and so much of his career has been dedicated to customer service, sales & office management. Starting as a lot attendant for a Ford dealership back in the 80’s at 16, he tackled just about every role in the auto industry including: sales, parts department, mechanic & service advisor. His curiosity has led to an eclectic career that includes: United States Marine, licensed stockbroker, real estate appraiser, and administrative employee with United States Citizenship and Immigration for over 12 years. Darby likes to have fun, so he kept his side hustle as a DJ for 30 years providing music and fun at night clubs & private events across the U.S. Darby brings his positive “Can do” attitude and works to ensures that clients always feel taken care of. Darby is always looking to make people smile and never shies away from hard work.
Darby proudly served in the United States Marine Corp as part of Special Security Forces, with an honorable discharge and Service Disabled Veteran Status. He has 4 amazing children and is very proud of each of them. Darby spends as much time as he can golfing, cooking, barbequing , including creating his own sauces & rubs for Darbeque Nation. Darby’s first love hobby is driving fast, usually off-roading in his CanAm or an ATV out on the sand dunes. He does all of this with his wife and high school sweetheart Melissa. Darby is old school and graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks. He Joined the USMC at 18 and served his country. He has been a Series 7 and Series 63 licensed broker and Licensed Real Estate Appraiser. He has owned three businesses over the years, knows the hard work and dedication that goes into running a business.
Above & Beyond is not just a saying for Darby, but a lifestyle he lives everyday. He is quite simply, a helper. He just jumps right in and makes it happen for those around him. He has helped in many community events over the years and was a very active volunteer while his kids were in the BMX circuit.
Dyllan comes from a background of customer service, health care & administrative operations. Dyllan has a varied back ground which includes the food industry, real estate, and as a social services case manager. She thrives in environments that require her to be organized and detail oriented. She has a passion for numbers and understands the importance of data. Dyllan is dedicated to helping others make sense of things that don’t make sense. If you’re calling Wasatch Accounting, Dyllan will most likely be the one helping you first!
Dyllan is very competitive and enjoys extreme sports. She loves going to the desert and cruising the dunes, as well as, hiking, racing BMX, and taking on things that challenge her. She is a big fan of vanilla iced coffee with lots of cream, true crime podcasts, and reading. She loves spending time with her family, their two crazy dogs, and their family of reptiles. Dyllan is a great listener and enjoys helping others solve problems.
Dyllan graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She also holds her Tennessee Real Estate license as an Affiliate Broker.
Dyllan is the daughter of an awesome veteran who always reminds her of the importance of putting 110% into everything she does. She has made this a daily practice in her life and never gives up on anything. This state of mind can be seen in her daily actions from the fantastic meals she cooks, as well as, throughout her work. She sets high expectations for herself and is determined to exceed her own expectations. Like her father, “Above & Beyond” is Dyllan’s life motto.
Ranging from business owner to building new homes, Chet has an accomplished & varied background. Chet has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry and over 25 years of experience as an accountant & CPA. Over the past 9 years, Chet has had ownership and/or management responsibilities in at least eight Limited Liability Companies. His experience means that Chet understands that owning a business is a lifestyle and knows that it takes dedication & hard work to be successful. As he prepares to retire, Chet will be a valued asset in helping ensure a smooth & seamless transition.
Chet & his wife Patti enjoy spending time with family, church activities and relaxing. Chet enjoys many outdoor activities including golf, hiking, and hunting.
