Melissa started Wasatch Accounting because she loves to help entrepreneurs. Her experience over the years has taught her that many amazing business owners struggle with certain aspects of owning a business. Trying to do and learn it all can be overwhelming as well as not a good use of their time. Melissa grew up in a family business and knows first hand the dedication it takes her clients to build their dreams.
Melissa has run two previous successful small businesses. She sold her last business in California to join a successful tech/finance start up at it’s beginning. During that time she had the opportunity to learn about scaling, crazy growth and building an accounting department from nothing to enterprise over multiple locations. The growth of that organization was 25 employees to 525 in 36 months! An unreal and enlightening experience that she enjoyed, but now has some amazing knowledge and experience on top of her technical experience to really help business owners.
Melissa is now dedicated to helping others with her knowledge and insights to help her clients grow and become amazing success stories.
Melissa and her husband Darby enjoy the outdoors, cooking and family. Don’t be surprised if your scheduled call with Melissa has a background of a campground, the RV or even the backyard. She can do her job from anywhere and does! Sunshine and serenity give Melissa the needed recharge to help others. Photography, Genealogy and baking are also things Melissa loves to share with others. She is also the parent and advocate for her son with autism.
Melissa is a Certified Public Accountant. She is also an Enrolled Agent for the IRS and an active CA Real Estate Broker. She holds a Masters in Business Administration with an IT emphasis as she is passionate about implementing technology into business processes and systems to help streamline business. Her undergraduate degree is in Accounting.
Melissa currently volunteers her time with some local outdoor organizations but is not in an active leadership role presently. Previously she started a 501c3 for the Special Education department in the Poway school district. She founded and ran the organization from 2009-2012. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, trainer for new leaders and participated in many other volunteer positions in the community. Melissa is open to board positions as a financial expert for the right organization.
Darby has an extensive background in customer service and sales. Starting as a customer service rep for a Ford dealership back in 1986 at 16 years old he served just about every role at a dealership from sales, parts and service advisor. He has also been a licensed stockbroker, real estate appraiser and worked for United States Citizenship and Immigration. Darby also spent over 30 years as a professional Disc Jockey providing services across the country to 1000’s of customers. He brings to our clients his positive “Can do” attitude. He ensures that our clients are always taken care of and that we maintain our customer bases. He most likely will be your first contact with us.
Darby spent 4 years in the United States Marine Corp in Security Forces and is a service disabled vet. Probably where his “can do” attitude can come from. He has 4 amazing children and is very proud of them. Darby spends as much time as he can golfing, cooking/BBQing (he’s the meat guy) or his favorite, off-roading in a side by side or on an ATV. He does all this with his wife and high school sweetheart Melissa
Darby is old school and graduated with honors from the school of hard knocks. He Joined the USMC at 18 and served his country. He has been a Series 7 and Series 63 licensed broker. Darby also held a position as a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser. He has owned 3 businesses of his own and knows how hard it can be. He has countless awards for his customer service from every position he has ever held as well as letters of appreciation from people as high as the Director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Darby is not the type of person that lets things go. If he feels that he can do more he always does. Your satisfaction with our services is his highest priority. Above and beyond is not just a saying but a lifestyle. He does it in his family, his work ethic and he will do it for you as our client.
